How It All Began

Our Story

Reuben and Elma’s story began with a simple online conversation that quickly became something far more meaningful than either of them could have imagined. After only a few messages, they met for their first date and instantly knew there was something special between them.

At the time, Elma was working as a travel nurse in Columbus, Georgia, nearly two hours away, but the distance only strengthened their relationship. Every evening at 7:15 p.m., after her hospital shifts, they would call each other. Those conversations became the highlight of their days—a time to laugh, encourage one another, and simply enjoy being together.

Their relationship was built on friendship, intentionality, and a shared faith in God. They attended church together, traveled to six destinations during their first year, and learned that no matter where life took them, their favorite place was wherever they were together. Though Elma’s family is from Kerala and Reuben’s from Hyderabad, their shared faith beautifully united their two cultures and strengthened the foundation of their relationship. Before long, Reuben knew there was only one question left to ask.

After receiving her parents’ blessing, Reuben brought Elma to a mountaintop overlooking the distant San Francisco skyline at sunset. There, he shared the words of Ruth 1:16–17 as his promise to Elma:

“Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Wherever you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord punish me severely if I allow anything but death to separate us.”

With those words, Reuben asked Elma to spend the rest of her life with him. With rolling green hills stretching before them and the sun setting behind them, she joyfully said, “Of course, yes!!” What began with a simple conversation has grown into a beautiful love story marked by faith, laughter, adventure, and unwavering commitment. As they begin this new chapter together, they are grateful for God’s guidance every step of the way and excited to build a lifetime of memories, hand in hand.
